Toyota has reintroduced the Land Cruiser Prado to the New Zealand market with a new hybrid diesel engine and enhanced off-road capabilities, marking the first new Prado model available locally since 2009. Showcasing a design that evokes classic Land Cruiser aesthetics, the 2024 Prado combines retro styling with modern features aimed at improving both fuel efficiency and environmental impact.

Equipped with a 2.8L turbo diesel engine and 48V hybrid system, the Prado delivers 150kW of power and 500Nm of torque. Notably, it offers a towing capacity of 3,500kg and an estimated fuel economy of 8.7L per 100km. The hybrid powertrain also includes a wading depth of 700mm, suitable for river crossings.

Toyota introduced the Prado at a launch event at Napoleon Hill on New Zealand’s West Coast, where it was tested on steep, rocky, and slippery trails. The model is available in four trims: GXL, VX, VX Limited, and the more rugged Adventure, each featuring three rows of seats and advanced multi-terrain controls for tackling varied conditions.

Starting at $83,990, the Prado’s hybrid lineup is part of Toyota’s broader push to expand hybrid offerings across its vehicle range.
